You ever heard that saying, “your body is a temple?”

Well, when you’re Beauty*licious, you worship at the temple of you every single day.

What we do to our body, or put in it, is a reflection of how much we dig ourselves. So it makes a whole lot of sense that if you want to look and feel fierce and fabulous, you have to treat your body with respect and keep it in perfect-o working order. Right?

Which is why Pink Ladies, like myself and Lola, worship our fabulousness by staring in the mirror, primping and experimenting daily with various Beauty*licious rituals. Not only is it a major source of fun, it’s a chance to play goddess-girl with our appearance, max-up our self-image and gives us that super-important moment in the day to say: “Hey Gorgeous Girl - you’re looking seriously Beauty*licious!”

Y’see, a true Beauty*licious Pink Lady will work her beauty routine out of pure prettifying pleasure NOT out of self-loathing. She doesn’t put make-up on to cover up, she puts it on to enhance her too-cute features because pampering is all about the fun. It doesn’t have to involve putting make-up on either, it can be taking a soak in a filled-to-the-brim bubble bath, rubbing yummy coconut smelling body lotion on each morning or preparing a DIY face mask. If you enjoy looking after yourself, other people will pick up on your positive ‘tude and you will become a walking, talking, primping poster girl for all things Beauty*licious - damn, you’re pretty!

Beautification 101

- Always express your feisty, fun, fearless and fabulousness - you know you’re all these things no matter what look you’re working, right?

- Never blend. Evah. Instead of trying to cover up what’s different about you - experiment, ignore trends and figure out how to accentuate your fabness so you’ll be sure to stand out in a crowd.

- Rock a look that feels completely right for you. If you take the chance to be seen, it doesn’t matter if no one else digs it. You’re a star-shaped, glitter-girl, baby and you call the shots on how you look in your world.

WIN! WIN! WIN! What would your tips for being beauty*licious be? What prods do you love? What makes you feel fab about yourself when you look in the mirror? The best comment will receive a copy of Beauty*licious and some glitter-fabulous Barry M prodz - closing date is February 14th 2010.

For more love-yourself Beauty*licious tips, buy your copy of the rather-fabulous-if-I do-say-so-myself Beauty*licious from amazon

The gorgeous reader-girls at our fave blog Chicklish have got an awesome interview with Lindsey Leavitt, author of the fab new book Princess for Hire, go read it now, it’s ever-so-good!

Hola chicas - so how was January for you? Did you love the snow?

Deluxe Silk Duvet - Queen

I worked ever-so-hard throughout January on two new writer-girl projects (will tell you all about them just as soon as I’m allowed - promise!) but do you know what I’d love? If January was a hunk-a-dunk time, where you got to spend A LOT of time under a duvet hunkering down, watching old movies, eating cupcakes and plotting and planning for all the goodness the year is going to be filled with, because let’s face it, January is a toughie of a month, isn’t it?

So many people set new years resolutions - like I’ll eat less and exercise more - yet here in the UK, January is cold and damp, it’s still blimmin’ winter y’know, so not only do you not want to go out as much, you also really want to eat yummy comfort food too - mmm, cupcakes. So while I set myself intentions, I didn’t make any promises I couldn’t keep - coz let’s face it there was no way I was going to be snowed in for a week and not eat chocolate - are you serious?!

imbolc-lamb

Which is why today, I’m celebrating the pagan festival of Imbolc in gorgeous Glastonbury. Imbolc is an old Irish term meaning ‘in the belly’, referring to the ewes that are soon going to give birth to the spring lambs - look at ‘em, how caa-ute? It’s celebrated at the start of February, midway through the winter, because the excitement of all things Yule-like is over and we’re all feeling a li’l cold and glum. Imbolc is a much better time for a new start, although perhaps without the resolutions!

love

So lets make a new start by declaring February the month o’ love - yes, feb the 14th is officially V day, but I, Lisa Clark, Princess o’ Pink, declare the entire month, a month o’ love. Cartoon hearts and love stuff isn’t just for our latest crush y’know, it’s for our sweet selves and for our friends and fam too. Throughout Feb, I’ll be posting all kinds of Think Pink-inspired ways to fill your life with love and it won’t just involve me posting pics of hot boys I heart - well, it might, but just a li’l bit…

So, you know how I’m crazy for the compliments? Start by giving yourself some lovin’ each morning by telling the gorgeous girl who is staring back at you in the mirror that she is ’simply gorgeous and fabulous in every way.’ Go on, every day, before you leave the house, ‘k? Then, be sure to shower the people you love with feel-good-stuff by telling them how great they look, that you love their bag, that their new hair-cut rocks - be sincere, only say things you mean, just don’t be shy about spreading a li’l compliment goodness each day!

What are you going to do to share the love?

getimage

Ohhh chicas, this is a li’l bit exciting, Dyan Sheldon author-girl of Confession of a Teenage Drama Queen and new book My Worst Best Friend has come to play in our world o’ pink - hurrah!

Hola! So, because of all this cold and crazy weather, I have spent a LOT of January under my brand-new goose feather duvet - it’s truly the most amazing puchase I’ve EVER made - reading books and chicas, do I have some book-shaped treats to share with you!

Lauren Luke is an internet phenomenon. Her make-up tutorials, filmed in her bedroom in South Shields near Newcastle, have attracted a staggering 36 million hits on YouTube.

Everyone has bits they love about their face, and other parts they’d rather conceal, and Lauren will show you how to make the most of what you’ve got. Just like sitting down with your best friend for a makeover session, Lauren’s book is brimming with fresh ideas and packed with insider beauty tips and tricks of the trade. £6.79 from Amazon

My Worst Best Friend by Dyan Sheldon offers a warm, smart and very funny look at the friendship between two very different girls. Gracie and Savannah are best friends - despite being totally different. Savannah is beautiful, outrageous and irresistible to the opposite sex. Gracie is shy, smart and would rather be learning about lizards than meeting boys. Together they make a great if surprising team and it seems like nothing could come between them - but over a long summer Gracie begins to question Savannah’s reliance on lies and manipulation to get her own way and wonder whether her friend is quite as confident as she seems. When Gracie meets a boy she really likes, and Savannah comes between them, Gracie realizes that maybe it’s time she started thinking for herself.

The two friends may never be as close as they were but they’ve learned a great deal from each other. This is a witty and very funny story about friendship, keeping your own identity and moving on. £6.99 from Amazon

If you’re a Twilight fan - I’m Team Jacob btw - then you’ll LOVE Need by Carrie Jones.

Author Carrie has a way of creating kooky characters with strong voices that seem immediately familiar. Zara’s character is no exception, she’s been shipped off to Maine to stay with Grandma Betty in the middle of nowhere during a super-cold winter. According to her mother, Zara just hasn’t been herself since her step-father passed away, and all of this is apparently supposed to help.

Before Zara even has a chance to snap out of the depression, her attention is drawn elsewhere by a mystery surrounding a local boy’s disappearance. Oh, and then there’s the strange man who seems to be stalking Zara.

I LOVED it, I think you will too! £6.99

What books are you currently reading, gorgeous girls? Care to share?

So, when I was 12, it was the opening night of the school play and as I walked out on stage, I literally landed on my bee-hind in a pretty spectacularly embarrassing way.

What did I do, you ask? Did I cry? Run off? Hell to the no. I declared; “I have arrived!” and continued reciting my lines from the stage floor. The audience laughed, the pink in my cheeks slowly subsided and everyone clapped.

What’s this all about? Well, sometimes life throws us a curveball, an awkward sitch, a not nice scenario, and at the time, it can feel icksville, but believe it or not, it can be the beginning of something awesome. I got a phone call yesterday that threw me a little. I was upset, I felt a little freaked out and I wobbled. I then rang Miss Cathy who later messaged me and I think it’s the most awesome advice any of us can follow…

snowheels2

“…Miss Lisa is putting on shiny pink heels… stepping out into the snow… slowly, at first, and then adding a little wiggle… then whirling around, dancing… reaching out her fingertips to catch every snowflake, every sparkle, that comes her way… go for it!
 xxx…”

No matter what life throws at you, make a quick save, hold your head up and before you know it, you’ll have flipped it into a moment to shine.

You know that I’m a HUGE fan of Miss Sarah at Temporary Secretary, and you really don’t need to ask why when she keeps creating cute, cute prodz like this ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ necklace, do you?

I’ve just ordered the pink one, natch, as a li’l reminder to myself to chill when my head gets messy and stressy! They’re £22.50 from www.temporary-secretary.com

‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ was a motivational poster produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of World War II, because, let me tell you, the grandparentals have got game. Seriously, where do you go to when you want really good advice? Tap into your grandma. Is she a fortune teller? Probably not, but Gran has lived a lot longer than you, and you can learn from her experiences. Pals are great, of course, but sometimes peer pressure can have bad results. Grandma knows all about respect and dignity. In fact, I bet you’ll be surprised by how much she knows!

I love pampering myself, this is factuality, but if, like me, you’re all out of cash after the festive season, pay less and pamper yourself more with these easy home-made beauty recipes. Now, go get mixin’!

HUNGRY HAIR

What you need:
1 egg
1 tsp honey
1 tbsp olive oil

Directions:
Crack the egg into a bowl.
Add honey and mix with an electric beater for 10 seconds.
Pour in oil and blend for another 20 seconds.
Take the mixture with you into the shower.
Shampoo and condition as usual, then apply this super-conditioning concoction to your hair (keep it away from your eyes!)
Massage it in for about five minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with warm water - voila! Shiny, gorgeous tresses!

APPLE A-PEEL

What you need:
1 medium apple
5 tbsp honey

Directions:
Peel and finely grate apple.
Add honey and combine thoroughly.
Smooth over skin and let sit for 10 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.

FANCY FEET

What you need:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp oil (almond or olive)
juice from 1/2 lemon

Directions:
Mix ingredients in a bowl.
Get your feet slightly wet and rub the mixture briskly all over your feet and up to your ankles (it’s a bit messy, so make sure to do it over a tub or towel).
Rinse in warm water, then dry completely.

Ohhh, I can’t tell you how much I LOVE Miss Carla. It’s not that I don’t want to, I just literally haven’t got enough words to describe her fabulousity. It’s the last day of 2009 - how did that happen exactly?!!

Not only is today New Years Eve, it’s also a full moon and if you remember, last month I started the Pink-World full moon mood board club, right now I think I’m the only member, but basically, each full moon you create a mood board filled with all the things you’d like to evoke in your world o’ fabulousity for the month ahead, and because tonight’s full moon is a blue moon, it means whatever you create today will be mondo beyondo powerful - I’m putting on a playlist of tunes that includes both Doris Day and Lady Gaga and I’m going to be a cut and paste queen…

But before we all go reach for the scissors - how was 2009 for you? I think it was a tough one for lots of people and I know I spent most of it learning lessons - not always nice ones, taking responsibility for my actions and trying to remember how to Think Pink - I had to re-read Think Pink at least 4 times to remind myself how to actually do it…Jeez.

Anyway, I have it on good authority that 2010 is going to be kick-ass x 10000 - wohhooo!
Except, it can only happen if you release all your toxic, icky, negative thoughts and feelings and tonight’s New Year’s Eve blue moon is a perfect time to tell the cosmoverse what you want to let go of and what you intend to let in this year. Now, you know how Lola and I love to write lists why don’t you do the same?

The things I’m gonna banish to a town called yesterday, never to be seen again in 2010 are…

* Turning down invitations - I get invited to a lot of places, I know, aren’t I lucky? Except a lot of the time I don’t accept, and while it’s totes cool to say ‘no’, I sometimes say it because I’m a li’l bit lazy and think not going will be a whole lot easier than going…Now, I’m not going to turn into Jim Carey in the Yes Man but I do plan on banishing my lazy, sofa-loving self and being open to lots of fun, adventures and opportunities - exciting stuff!

* Bad thoughts about myself - this year I’ve been a li’l bit poorly, and that’s made me put on a li’l bit of weight, and while I’d think I was fabulous whether I was a size 14 or a size 24, there’s lots of things I can do to be much nicer to myself on a daily basis - starting with re-reading Beauty*licious!

* Bad thoughts about others - now I don’t know how you feel about astrology, but I’m a total Scorpio, which means that I can be very jealous and can have a real sting in my tail if you cross me. They’re not things I’m proud of, so this year I plan on letting go of all the stupid grudges and anger I’ve felt about people and situations over my lifetime, it’s going to be easier said than done, but life is way to short to be a big ol’ ball of knotty anger stuff, and if you let it all go, you make a whole lot of room that you can fill with pink, love-shaped good stuff - wohhoo!

Things I want to welcome into my star-shaped life o’ fabulousity in 2010 are…

* Love - not necessarily in the shape of a boy-type, but in ALL the shapes and forms that love stuff can happen - a smile in the street, new friends, old friends, sharing a tub o’ ice cream with your bestie at the movies, listening to your Grandpa’s stories about when he was young, hearing an amazing song on your ipod just when you need to, a sunset, a hug, a kiss…

* Adventures - whether they’re in the city I live or involve getting on a plane, I want adventures. LOTS of adventures.

* Work - I love that I’m paid to do work that I love, so I’d like many, many more new projects that involve writing books, features and programmes for schools, coaching, creating, meeting fabulous people like your sweet selves, and helping people to live life totally unlimited…

* Learning - I’m a geek girl. This is fact. So I love to learn, right now I’m taking an astrology class which is ever-so-hard but I really do love to learn so whether it’s life lessons, how to play Miley Cyrus’ The Climb on my gee-tar, or the entire lyrix to New York by JayZ word-for-word I am all about the learning…

You get the idea, right? PLEASE share your mood boards and 2010 banish/let in lists with everyone - once mine is made, I’ll put it live, just as soon as I can find the blimmin’ camera cable - why can’t I just have put it back where I found it?!!

Happy last day of 2009, gorgeous girls!

lola

Hola Pink Ladies - hope you all had a cool yule - what did you get up to? Tell me all about it!

Before I tell you all about mine (I went to Austria - yo-de-lay-ay-oooooo! - I’ll upload the pix later), to all of you gorgeous Pink Ladies who’ve been messaging and emailing me - yep, it’s true, sadly www.Lolasland.com is no more - sob.

Unfortunately, the decision is out of my hands, I only found out a week ago myself and I’m as sad about it as you all are, it was such a cool place to hang out, but while I don’t have all the games goodness that Lola had at Lolasland.com, I hope that www.pink-world.co.uk will become your all-new pink destination for pink-thinking, Lola fun and fabulousness…

Each week you’ll find competitions, interviews with inspir-o-girls doing amazing things, prods you’ll love, cool online destinations you have to visit and most importantly, tips on how to love yourself inside and out, think pink and live your life totally unlimited!

Glee. Officially my new favourite programme. Fact.

It’s like a too-cool-for-school cross between Ugly Betty and Fame. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

“…Don’t mistake the size of someone’s body for the size of their heart, compassion, or ability to transform the world…”

The fabulous Miss Carla’s response to the idea that Pink Stinks….

Yoon3

I don’t know about you, but I think the colour pink rocks.

I’m obviously going to say that, my site is called Pink-world, I live in a Pink Palace, I run pink-themed self-esteem workshops and I write books titled Think Pink, but I honestly think that pink is the prettiest, happiest, most fun and love-induced colour in the rainbow, so why are some people are trying to ban it?

Hey Pink Ladies - I’ve created a dream board every year for the past 5 years…I set aside an entire afternoon, put on an old movie - Some Like it Hot or Breakfast at Tiffany’s, collect up a ton of magazines that I’ve finished reading and cut out inspiring pictures, words and phrases that will invite all the things I would like into my world - not only is cutting and pasting a super fun thing to do, the process of creating a dream board filled with all the things you want actually works - awesome, right?

Even more awesome, is discovering that when you create it on a full moon, it becomes beyond powerful. The fabulous Jamie Ridler, encourages her readers to create a dream board each month. On the day of the full moon, Jamie posts a blog entry that has a space for you to add a link to where you have posted your dream board online. She has a lovely community of dreamers that visit each other and add their wishing power to your intentions - it’s totes magick!

Jamie says: “There is power and energy in the full moon. It represents the full strength of what is possible in the nighttime land of dreams. When you make your board on the full moon, take a moment to focus your attention, to say to yourself and the Universe, “This is what I wish to manifest this month.”

I’m definitely going to start doing this each month, the next full moon is on Dec 31st, how perfect is that? Instead of making resolutions that I’ll never keep, I’m going to create a dream board of all the things I’d like to fill my life with each month instead - are you going to join me?

64f61a63-01c5-4e90-852a-e07c6232c995

So, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this (ahem) but my pink-haired lady o’ fabulousness, Lola Love has just launched her very own t-shirt exclusively at www.tammy.co.uk - look how freakin’ pretty it is - and if you head over to www.lolasland.com you can win one - wohhhoo!

Hey chicas - sorry I haven’t been updating, it’s been my birthday (pix to come!) and as per usual I plan on stretching it out for the entire month o’ November - but I HAD to tell you about this book - I ADORE it.

Dear Me; A letter to your Sixteen year old self includes letters from three knights, a handful of Oscar winners, a bevy of Baftas, an intrepid explorer, a few teenage pop stars, an avid horticulturalist, pages and pages of bestselling authors, a dishy doctor, a full credit of film directors, a lovey of top actors, a giggle of comedians and an Archbishop! The letters range from the compassionate to the shocking via hilarity and heartbreak, but they all have one thing in common: they offer a unique insight into the teenager who would grow up to be…. Stephen Fry, Annie Lennox, Paul O’Grady, Jackie Collins, Fay Weldon, Alan Carr, Peter Kay, Debbie Harry, Brenda Blethyn , Jonathan Ross, Liz Smith, Will Young, Alison Moyet, Rosanne Cash, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Yoko Ono, Emma Thompson…

It’s guaranteed to make you laugh, make you cry and is a perfect Christmas gift. Not only that, but £1 from each copy sold goes towards The Elton John Foundation, so you’ll be doing a good deed too.

Here’s a letter to my sixteen year old self - yep, that’s me, with a v.young Declan Donnelly! FYI: I didn’t discover tweezers until I was 18, don’t judge me, ‘k! - Let me know what you think…

-7

Dear Lisa at sixteen,

Firstly, I know right now you are crushing on Gary Barlow and working out ways to make him marry you, but sweet thing, he marries Dawn the dancer and they have really pretty children. On the plus side, all that Ant and Dec stalking following pays off, and you end up working with them for three years - result, non? Oh, on the Take That front, they split up next year, but don’t fret, they get back together in 10 years time and are just as amazing.

You need to chill out. A lot.
Stop stressing about being thinner, being cooler, being popular or whether you’ll actually get a boyfriend - none of it actually matters because you rip up the cool-kid rule book and write your own. Literally.

FYI, you’re probably the thinnest you’ll ever be right now - stop beating yourself up about it, seriously, celebrate your curves and don’t get hung up on your wobbly bits, don’t keep putting off doing thing until you’ve lost 5lbs - you want to do something? Do it now! Oh, and those so-called cool kids at school? Turns out in the real world they’re not so cool, who knew, huh?

I know you don’t dig standing out right now, but it’s set to become your ‘thing’ - if people are going to stare, you really should give them something to stare at, gorgeous girl. And yes, you may come from a single parent family on a council estate, but don’t listen to those people who say ’stop daydreaming’ or ‘you need to get a real job’ because chica, you never have a ‘real’ job. Dream big sparkle-filled dreams, plan amazing adventures, write lists of all the the things you’re going to achieve and then tick each one off as you achieve them, because you will - you’re kick-ass.

Don’t waste time learning the guitar, Lee Cooper will fancy you anyway, don’t spend your pocket money on Rimmel’s Black Cherry lipstick, it doesn’t suit you, and read other books beside Point Romance novels - it’ll really help.

You will always be surrounded by beautiful boys - unfortunately for you, most of them will be gay, but they’re ever so pretty to look at and treat you like the princess that you absolutely are. Despite wanting to kiss one of your best mates throughout your entire time at college, don’t. He’s still your friend at 30 and you won’t want an awkward kiss ruining super-fun cinema and dinner dates. You’ll kiss other boys. A lot of boys. In fact kissing becomes quite the past time. Some boys aren’t that nice, but others are beautiful, funny and great company - you might not believe me, but you’ll actually spend smooch time with a pop star and a Dolce and Gabanna (that’s a swanky fashion label!) model. One boy in particular steals your heart and for eight years you have fun-filled adventures, own a pile of bricks and share endless thoughts and dreams. He does eventually break your heart, but please don’t let that stop you from doing it all over again.

Throughout your early 20s, life might not be the fairy tale you expect it to be, but don’t be disheartened, because you can and will become author, stylist and star of the most awesome story ever…your life. It will be filled with the most amazing and exciting people and adventures and you’ll realise that it doesn’t matter where you come from, it’s where you’re going that counts.

Lisa xx

Until recently, I wasn’t a ‘puter game kinda girl, the only ‘puter game I was familiar with was Singstar - I LOVE the Singstar! - that was however, until I discovered EyePet.

I freakin’ LOVE this. If you’ve ever wanted a pet and your ‘rents keep saying no, this is most deffo for you! It won’t make a mess on the floor or claw at the curtains – EyePet is the ultimate pet!

It’s a virtual creature who reacts to your every move. You can feed, play with, and dress it up, and basically spend a whole lot of time fussing over your new pet o’ lovliness!

A loveable, simian-like pet, EyePet lives in an on-screen picture of your sitting room as captured second by second on PLAYSTATION Eye. Working in ‘Augmented Reality’, EyePet is fully aware of people in the room and will interact with you and your environment. Place an object in front of the camera that EyePet hasn’t seen before and it’ll know exactly what to do with it, give it something new and it’ll examine it thoroughly. Tickle it by waving your fingers in front of the camera: it laughs, poke it: it jumps, roll it a ball: EyePet chases around the screen after it.

An incredibly lifelike little critter, EyePet gives you all the lovable benefits and interaction of a real-life pet without tearing up your sofa or making a mess on the rug - officially my new favourite thing. EVER.

EyePet for Playstation 3 is available from October 23rd - buy for £29.99 from www.zavvi.com

boyzone-gately-dead

I am sad x 100000000000.

As you know, I was a HUGE boyband fan as a teen girl and Boyzone were one of my favourites, so the news this weekend that Stephen Gately died knocked me for six.

I met all the boys lots as a teen girl and then when I was working at SM:TV live I had the total treat of having to travel with Stephen in a taxi to Harvey Nichols to buy hair gel - he was the nicest, sweetest and funniest man and so, so charming. I moan all the time that I’m 30 and I’m getting old, but Stephen dying at 33 has just made me realise that 33 is no age at all so I plan on being hugely grateful for everything in my world, and not wasting one minute more moaning and groaning.

Stephen - you made my awkward teenage years fun and almost bearable - I heart you.

This is how I plan on remembering Stephen….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA2cQzxbZgM

Ohhh, I’m excited - controversial and kick-ass super-talent Amy Winehouse, has launched her own record label, Lioness Records and her first release is Introducing Dionne Bromfield, the debut album from thirteen year old Londoner, Dionne Bromfield.
Speaking about Dionne, Amy says, “The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing… such an amazing voice from such a young girl. I’m just so proud of her.”

Dionne started to think seriously about singing when she turned 10 and her aunt recognised her potential. A year later she sang for her Godmother, Amy Winehouse for the first time. “I said, ‘You’re an amazing singer’,” Amy recalls. “We also played guitar together, and the way she accompanies herself on guitar is amazing too.”

Amy put Dionne together with Jon Moon, a crazy-popular producer who worked on the deluxe edition of Amy’s Back To Black album and whose also worked with N-Dubz. Dionne says: “The first song we did was Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. I played it to Amy and she said, ‘Oh my God, that’s the nuts!’ Eventually we started doing more and more songs and it’s turned into an album.”

We’ll be shouting ALL about Dionne’s new album Introducing Dionne Bromfield next week, but right now, we’d love for all you Pink Ladies to turn journo-girls and interview Dionne - if you’ve got a question for the newbie soul queen, we’d love to hear from you! Leave your question in the comment box below before Friday October 16th and we’ll whizz them over to Dionne next week to answer in a Pink-world interview of fabulousness that will go live at the end of October - woop, woop!

Today is National Poetry day and to celebrate I’d love to share my favourite poem of all time with you, it’s called Phenomenal Woman and it’s by poet, author, activist, producer, actor, director and inspir-o girl, Maya Angelou. I have this poem hanging in the boudoir of the Pink Palace - buy yours here - so that it’s the first thing I read every morning and the last thing I read at night - I love it, hope you do too…

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Care to share your favourite poems, Pink Ladies?

me and gok

Now as you know, I have a LOT of love for Gok Wan, but as of tonight, if it’s even possible, I love him a gazillion times more, because Gok and the winner of Miss Naked 2008 - Shona Collins - are fronting a teenage body confidence campaign calling for a body confidence lesson to be included on the school curriculum.

Obviously as a self-esteem queen, PSHE practitioner and author of confidence boostin’, go-for-it-guides for girls - Think Pink, Beauty*licious, It’s a Girl Thing and Viva La Diva - I am 100% backing this campaign and think that all you gorgeous Pink Ladies should too.

Shona has spent the last few months investigating young girls’ body image issues and has been speaking to parents, teachers and teenagers.

‘It was shocking to me how depressed and down young girls are about their appearance and body shapes… Girls want the schools to ‘catch up’ with the pressures on teenage lives and address the issues openly. Body confidence issues are one of their biggest worries,’ she says.

Later this year the petition will be presented to policy makers at Downing St to try and secure body confidence on the PSHE syllabus - how awesome would that be?

Go sign the petition now and check out www.howtolookgoodnaked.com for more Gok goodness.

Ohhh today is a sucky day. My childhood crush, Patrick Swayze, star of one of my all time fave movies Dirty Dancing, had died. How sad is that? I also loved him in Point Break and Ghost too, but in Dirty Dancing he was just so…um, sexy. I plan on re-watching it for the gazillionth time tonight and singing along to all the songs at the top of my voice in homage to the PS.

To add to the sucky-ness, I had to go to the dentist and PAY someone £70 to take a tooth out. Yep, I literally had to pay someone to inflict pain on me - rude and wrong. She then informed me that I couldn’t have a replacement until at least the end of November, so ’til then, I have to walk around with a whopping great big gap - it’s at the side, so v.visable - looking like an extra from Pirates of the Carribean…not cool.

Now, I’m not vain, but Peter Andre, my future husband, is at my local Asda on Saturday and while he’ll of course be woo-ed by my wit and charm, wooing will be substantially harder with a hole in the side of my mouth…I know, can you believe Peter Andre is going to be signing his new album at my local Asda? Operation ‘Make Peter my Husband’ is officially on, Pink Ladies - wish me luck!

How could I forget to add The X Factor to my list of current hearts…are you loving it?! I predict this guy to win - Olly - he makes me very happy - he’s got a touch o’ the Will Young, a li’l bit ‘o Gary Barlow and a whole lot of JT - a dream combo!

Firstly, I need to send a HUGE glitter filled hug o’ love to all of you who have written, emailed and left messages making sure I’m alright and asking me to update more often - yes, I’m fabu thanks for asking - I’ve been really busy making the Pink Palace pretty, writing and planning lots of new projects, all of which you’ll be the first to know about and doing lots of fun things with my gorgeous gal-pals - but I’m back in bloggin’ mode now and will bring you lots of fabu people, places and things you’ll love!

OHHHHH EXCITING NEWS - on October 16th, you must run, not walk, to your local Tammy where you absolutely positively HAVE to purchase a Lola Love t-shirt! I know, how freakin’ exciting is that? There are going to be actual t-shirts with the too-cute-for-words Lola Love on them - I’m in total heart with them as soon as I have a pic for you I’ll post it up here - they’re v.cool, I think you’ll heart them too!

MORE EXCITING NEWS - you can see me, the awesome Grace Dent and the fabulous Chris Higgins at Bath Kid’s Lit Festival on the 27th September - yep, 3 authors, one session = lots of giggles and fun! Please come along, we’d love to see you! The entire festival runs from Friday 18th until Sunday 27th September and is filled to the brim with amazing author types like Cathy Cassidy and Lauren Child for more information and to book tix to see myself and the lovely Grace and Chris visit: www.bathkidslitfest.co.uk

So, because I’ve been a bad blogster, I’ll make it up to you by sharing some of my current favourite things - we haven’t done this for ages have we?

I’m currently hearting…

8836100x

Kelly Osbourne’s new book Fierce - I blimmin’ love Kelly, and I love how this book is part advice book/part autobiography - I’m half way through and I’m loving it x 1000.

Meet Carolyn Turgeon. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Carolyn is author-girl of Godmother: The Secret Cinderella Story which is set in a modern day NYC and is a breathtaking story of love, loss and redemption. It’s a re-telling of the fairytale Cinderella, but with a touch o’ Enchanted, a li’l Charmed and a whole lot o’ Wicked - it’s by far my favourite read of the year, s’far. Fact. Carolyn also hearts all things 1940s, is a sucker for Urban Decay cosmetics, loves Burlesque and the musical fabulousness - she’s simply de-voom!

This isn’t even a procrastination station, books are by far my most favourite thing, even more than Galaxy chocolate - yep, fo’ real - so filling in questions, about my favourite things, is like some kinda rainbow-coloured dream fest - I’m so excited to read everyone’s answers too, so be sure to paste them into the comments or link me to your responses on your blogginz - ok, here are my answers:

1. What author do you own the most books by?

I own every Judy Blume book, EVER because reading Judy is an education.
I also own every Francesca Lia Block and Rachel Cohn book too, because they’re officially my favourite authors…

2. What book do you own the most copies of?

I have three copies of Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block as I always like to have copies to give as presents…

3. Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions?

Does it bother you that I don’t actually know what that means?!

4. What fictional character are you secretly in love with?
I love Shrimp in Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn - laid back, cute x 100 and says ‘you’re harshin’ my mellow’ - what’s not to love? I love Oscar in my book Time to Shine, I hoped that writing about a cute Irish geek-boy who liked all things retro and comic books would actually make him real - FYI: I’m still waiting. I’m also a li’l bit in love with Alex in I heart New York which is a book written by one of my besties, Lindsey Kelk, and it’s out in July - he’s so freakin’ hot in a New York, I’m-in-a-band kinda way - yumsville.

5. What book have you read the most times in your life?
Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret and Forever by Judy Blume - we’d read and re-read the rude bits in Forever in the school playground and giggle lots.

6. Favorite book as a ten year old?
Remember me to Harold Square by Paula Danziger - that’s when my love affair with New York really began, but I remember thinking at the time that Harold Square was an actual person, bless! I also LOVED the Anastasia Krupnik books by Lois Lowry - actually, I’m going to go purchase me some in order to re-live my youth - you should too, they’re amazing!

7. What is the worst book you’ve read in the past year?
Um…if I don’t like a book, I rarely finish it, so I haven’t actually read anything bad, I did read a children’s book by a famous person and found out that the famous person didn’t write it and got really mad, does that count?

8. What is the best book you’ve read in the past year?
s’far, it’s been Sarra Manning’s Unsticky - so, so good. I also have to give special mentions to Men, Money and Chocolate by Menna Von Pragg and I heart New York by my gal-pal Lindsey Kelk…

9. If you could force everyone you know to read one book, what would it be?
Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block and The Creative Companion by SARK

10. What book would you most like to see made into a movie?
Is it wrong to say, I’d love, love, love for any of the Lola Love books to be made into a movie? It is? Oh well, then I’m wrong, because I’d LOVE for Lola to be on the big screen - think it would be AMAZING!

11. What is the most difficult book you’ve ever read?
Oh, I don’t have time for difficult books. Reading, for me, is my total pleasure and I don’t want it to ever be a struggle, I want it to be a completely indulgent experience, so if it feels like it might be a trickster, I don’t read it…

12. What is your favorite book?
Weetzie Bat and Necklace of Kisses by Francesca Lia Block and Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn.

13. Play?
Romeo and Juliet

14. Poem?
I like anything by Rumi, but my favourite poem of all time is Phenomenal Woman by Maja Angelou - go google it, INCREDZ.

15. Essay?
anything by girl o’ awesomeness, Hilary Carlip.

16. Who is the most overrated writer alive today?
The only over-rated writers are famous people who don’t actually write books, yet have books on the shelf with their name on it - makes me a li’l bit mad.

17. What is your desert island book?
Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block - it’s a bind-up of all the Weetzie Bat books and is whimsical and fantastical - I love it!

18. And . . . what are you reading right now?

I’m reading a few at the moment - I’m re-reading Eat, Pray, Love because it makes me happy, The Goddess Diet by Anita Revel - it’s not an actual diet, it’s just goddess-girl awesomeness, 31 Dream Street by Lisa Jewell - she’s still got it, I love it and I’ve just finished Platinum by Jo Rees - wowzers, it’s RUDE!

The amazing people at Bookbag have been the first to review Time to Shine, and guess what?!! It’s a really, really good one - woop, woop!

Bookbag, Lola and I heart you!

Cupcakes, I have the BEST news!

Two brand-spankin’ new Lola fiction books Time to Shine and Li’l Miss Bliss are out TODAY!

Now, I know I should be all about the words, what with me being the one to write them and all, but seriously, how cute are those freakin’ covers?!! Aren’t they bee-yoooooou-tiful?!

040179-fc222

Time to Shine
Lola has snagged a role in the school musical but she’s got a serious case of tummy butterflies! Not only has she got to sing, dance and act but she also has to plant a big one on the lips of her leading man - one Mr Jake Farrell! Even with her Pink Ladies cheering her on, Lola isn’t sure she’s ready to take centre stage or get up close and personal with the object of her crushage. And when Charlie’s cutie-patootie cousin Oscar appears on the scene, things get even more confusing in Lola land.

045738-fc222

Li’l Miss Bliss
Lola couldn’t be happier that the Mothership is dating Bella’s pa, Yoga Dad. Or at least she thinks she couldn’t. All of a sudden, Bella has gone from Pink Lady to I-know-best-big-sort-of-sister and it’s all a little too much for Lola Love. When Yoga Dad offers to take the new family and the Pink Ladies to a super cool music festival, Lola knows she should be all kinds of excited but instead, her life starts spinning out of control. Everything is going topsy turvy - fashionista Angel is wearing wellies, sweet Sadie is away with the fairies (literally), Bella is monopolising the Mothership and Lola doesn’t know where she’s supposed fit in anymore. It looks like happy families are no easier to deal with than unhappy ones…

You can get your copies of Time to Shine and Li’l Miss Bliss from Amazon and Play f’sure, and if your local bookstore doesn’t have them in (shame on them!) ask them to order them for you!

Can’t wait to hear what you all think!

I am literally doing star jumps right now - woop, woop! Will tell you all about it, and where you can get it from and how freakin’ awesome it is, when I’ve got more information from the girls themselves - if that isn’t a reason to head over to Italia in July, then I don’t know what is!

Unfortunately for pretty-boy-kind, I’m no longer taking applications for cute gay boys to make my life sweeter - I’m very lucky that my world o’ pink is positively filled to the brim with the cutest, most adorbz, VERY easy-on-the-eye boys o’ gay - but I might, just might make an exception for American Idol’s Adam Lambert.

adam_lambert_is_hot.jpg

Le freakin’ sigh.

Now, it’s not catergorically certain that Adam is actually gay, so I’m going to work on the basis that he’s not, and actively encourage him to fill out a Be Lisa’s Boyfriend application form, pronto.

However, I’d totally skip the application process for Peter Andre, he’d be a very impressive Mr. Pink, don’tcha think?! Peter, call me.

Peter.jpg

289599_207664_MZ626_cover_final.jpgConsider this a feature o’ gush-love for my fave magazine - Mizz!

As most of you know, I’m agony aunt for the AMAZING Mizz magazine, I don’t know, I might have mentioned it once or twice before! ;) Well, I want to let ya’ll know that, not only has the magazine had a saaaaaa-weeet make-over - go buy a copy now, it looks HOT! - it’s also got a fabu fan page on facebook, and you can check out what’s going on a Mizz towers every single day by following my ed-girl and her team on twitter

Go on, go show the Mizz team some love!

Ohhh - I love this! Girls jumping - I wanna do jumping!

Ohmystars - before I go on, did y’hear ’bout Katie and Peter?!

I am SO upset. I just LOVE them as a couple, I love their teev show and I’ve crushed on Peter Andre since I was a teen-girl…

Part of me wants to turn all lifecoach on their bee-hinds, but the other part of me just wants to give them big hugs, because I can’t imagine how crazy it must be to split up with someone in public…it’s tough times splitting with a boy-type at the best of times, but in front of the entire world? Not cool.

Now, I’ve been compliment-collecting crazy this weekend. A cute boy from Liverpool told me my hair-clip - pink, natch - was ‘boss’, a girl called Claire came up to me in the train station to tell me I was funky - thanks Claire! and another girl told me how pretty my lip gloss was when I was re-applying it in the loo…compliment collecting is simply dee-lish. logo_1.gifI was a total obsess-o girl about ElleGirl magazine way into my twenties. The UK version was awesome x 100, but the original, the US version, rocked. Hard. I used to get it shipped over I loved it so much, and the main reason I loved it, was pretty much down to two girls - Melissa and Anna.

M & A used to be ed-girls at ElleGirl and created the sparkly, witty, kick-ass content that made it so unique. Sadly, the mag is no more - boo. sandk.jpgIf you’ve read Livin’ La Vida Lola, you’ll know that thanks to Bella, Lola discovers the awesomeness that is zine making. We argue with our parentals, the boy we’ve been crushing on for like, forever, doesn’t heart us back, we get bad marks for something we studied super-hard for, we fall out with our bff - whatever the ‘bad stuff’ is, an instant response is to take props from Grumpy Bear and develop a permanent raincloud of grump above our head. We want to crawl under our duvet indefinitely, only coming out to get another tub of ice cream from the fridge, right?

eiffel_walsh.jpgThe awesome Audrey Hepburn may have appeared in Paris When It Sizzles, but if life was a movie starring me, right now, my movie would be called Paris When it Snows.

I would be the leading lady, natch, and wear quirky one-of-a-kind ensembles designed especially for me by Jean Paul Gautier. My leading man would be a tall, dark brooding french boy with eyes that would look deep into my soul. He’d wear black and want to show me all things arty. There would be flirts and heart pinches and lots of misunderstandings and this would be it’s soundtrack…

Yesterday I wrote a post all about my scheduled solo-girl trip to Mumbai that I was going to share with you tonight.

I was going to tell you all about the fun places I planned to visit, the amazing people I planned to meet, the incredible things I planned to do, but after the awful, mindless, violent and shocking events that have unfolded, I’m just going to use this space to send all my prayers, thoughts and big-hearted love to everyone in the amazing, colourful, beautiful free-spirited Mumbai…

Sadly, I’m not an Americano, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea of Thanksgiving, so for today, which is officially Thanksgiving day in the US of A, I am going to become Americano.

I write three things in my journal that I’m thankful for everyday, but for anyone that doesn’t, the idea of a day of being thankful is just soo cool. Why don’t us Brits do it? You get to eat two Christmas-like dinners - mmmm - and most importantly, you take time out of your crazy days to be thankful - what’s not to love about that?

Once the love for musicians like Stevie Wonder, Candi Stanton, and Roberta Flack took hold, she was smitten for good. “One door opened to the next – first I discovered Marvin Gaye, and then Otis Redding, and I just fell in love with soul music.”

* I am obsess-O with all things Goddess-ey.

It started when I interviewed the author of Goddess Girl Power, Cordelia Brabbs for Pink-world. Since then, Cordelia has become one of my best buds, I’ve attended an amazing Goddess Girl weekend in Glasto which was just magical, I’ve hooked up with super-talented goddess girls like Leonie and Anita, and I’ve spent lots of time reading about, researching and falling in total girl crush with ancient goddesses from around the world - my faves are Kali, Lilith and Kwan Lin - who prove to me time and time again why girls officially rock and rule!

They’re punk, they’re glam, they’ve got pink sparkles and while they’re a teeny bit pricey at £35, quite frankly, I’m worth it!

stinkyry4.jpgSo, this weekend I had a ‘moment’.

Like Lola, I am fiesty, fun, fearless and fabulous - how do I know? Because I tell myself every day, of course! Except for a moment, on friday, I let someone’s judgements and opinions about my fabulous-o self make me feel sad and bad.

It was a stinky boy-type, and he asked what I did for a living. I told him I write books and deliver workshops to help girls feel good about themselves, and do you know what he said? He said: “How can you do that when you’re overweight? I mean you’re really pretty, but you’re a big girl, you can’t be happy with yourself so how can you help others feel good about themselves?”

Basically, all you have to do is bold the statements below that you’ve done so we can learn a little bit about each other - cool, huh?! There’s a few crazy ones, so be warned!

marilyn_monroe_792471.jpgI collect quotes.

Inspiring quotes, uplifting quotes, profound quotes, funny quotes…I have journals full of them, I have them written on pretty pink postcards on my pin-board and I even have a few on post-it notes that I’ve stuck to my mirror to remind me how to be fabulous, y’know, just in case I forget.

These are a few of my favourites…

“…I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I’m out of control sometimes and hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best…”

beautylicious.jpgYep, I’m going to say it; Christmas!

The only reason I’m mentioning it mid-November, which should still technically involve celebrating my b-day, is because I’m going to be away for a big chunk of December - did I tell you? I’m going to India?! - and I’m having to start my Christmas shopping early…

So, despite being an only child, I thought it might be really cool to offer up some Pink-world recommends… over the next few weeks to inspire your very own present-buying - I know, I’m like the gift that keeps giving, right?!

YLF.jpgToday I am wearing ridiculously over-priced labels and speaking in a super-posh ‘It’ girl accent.

Why?

Because I’m super-excited about the launch of new book Young, Loaded and Fabulous - read about it here - that’s why!

It’s out today, 13th November, and to celebrate, I’ve swapped air-kisses and had a girl-goss-fest with author-girl Kate Kingsley and I’ve bagged five copies of the book to give away to five fabulous Pink Ladies!

I might not be super-young or loaded…yet, but I’m most deffo fabulous, right?!

Fact.

If however, you’re struggling to embrace your princess-ness and want to know how to make wishes come true, come meet Princess Skye. NEWNEWNEWNEWNEW.gifI am such a shocker when it comes to storing my jewellery. I have cute li’l trinket boxes scattered all over my room filled with necklaces, beads, bracelets, hair clips, earrings, which is good, except, they get all caught up and tangled and make li’l miss impatient - that’s me, btw - mucho grumpo when I can’t instantly access the item I need for accessorisation, which, FYI is my most important part of the day…

Sooooo, I am beyond excited to have discovered this…. a jewellery hanger.

So simple, yet totally life changing for an accessory queen like my sweet self. Available from Rubys Closet and at a totally credit-crunch friendly £14.40, I’m going to write to Santa right now and request a set of 3!

I never need an excuse to post a Take That video, I heart Take That, but this is quite possibly the BEST feel-good, shake-off the-rainy-Monday-glums tune EVER! May I suggest you turn it up and sing it loud - go on, dare you!

pile_of_books.jpegNEW BLOG TO LOVE!

A li’l while back, the fabu Miss Hannah, knowing my love for all things book, pointed me in the direction of an awesome new review site that she’d discovered, www.dragonflybookreviews.blogspot.com created by the way-to-fabulous-for-words 13-years-old, Sara Ann Leslie.

I have been a total fan-girl ever since, and I have absolutely no doubt that if you love tween/teen books and think that reading rocks, you will be wanting a ‘I heart Sara’ badge pretty soon too!

Well, get your manicured mitts on this, the most addictive, glamorous thing since…well…Gossip Girl. Young, Loaded & Fabulous by Kate Kingsley.

The blurb: London socialites Alice Rochester and Natalya Abbot are glamorous, sexy, spoilt and only sixteen. When they’re not at their prestigious private school, St. Cecilias, they can be found partying in London’s private members clubs or jetting off to the most sophisticated European cities.

velvetimageedit.jpgA li’l while back I hooked you up with the beyond awesome Melissa Dempster, make up artist to the stars and creator of her own fabu prods of wonder, www.mellicosmetics.com

Now I want to hook you up with a Melli Cosmetics prod of total and utter perfection, it’s called VELVET Silk Perfection Mousse Primer and I’m in L.O.V.E.

Not only does it come in a super-cute silver pot which j’adore, but inside is the stuff of magic. A super-soft mousse that is able to turn my open pores and uneven skin into movie screen fabulousness. It really is a little bit magic - it evens out your skin tone and makes my face feel so unbelievably soft I just want to keep touching it.

Big prod love to melli cosmetics - if it’s good enough for the turban-wearing, smokin’ hot X Factor judge Danni Minogue, then it’s a deffo good enough for me!

So, as those of you who know me will testify, I’m fur-reakin’ out about my BIG birthday, which FYI, is in 7 days time.

I want to be okay about it, I want to Think Pink about it, I want to be able to say it’s ‘just a number’ but, right now, I’m finding that waaaaay too difficult. I really don’t know what the big deal is, all I know is that it is. A big deal, that is. Grr.
So, I’m denying all knowledge of the actual numbers and instead, I’m filling my last week of twenty-dom with fun times, like… my tattoo - which is all healed up now and looking super-cute, seeing Vampire Weekend - I stayed in the mosh pit for at least 3/4 of the gig, something I didn’t even do when I was 18 - go me! I drank cocktails, ate yummy food and danced to indie/prep rock with the girls on Saturday, I’m going to see HSM3 this evening, and the rest of the week will be about lunches with fabulous people, dancing with strangers, planning new projects and adventures, oh…and I’m going to eat a lot of cupcakes, because, well…I like doing that a lot.

What do you suggest I do in my last week of twenty-dom? If I do it, I’ll send you a prize!

Copy_of_bling_Sparkle_Spray_RGB_Straight_001.jpgI NEED to share my new product crush.

As if the Lee Stafford range of prods weren’t fabulous enough - they smell dee-lish and come in super-cute pink packaging - they’ve now gone and added a touch of sparkle for the party season, which FYI, should be EVERY season…

It’s appropriately called Bling and is a party range for hair. It’s got all the prods you’ll need to get ready to go out like glimmer serums and sparkle sprays, as well as everything to treat partied-out hair the following day like, detox shampoo and wake-up call spray - how fabu is that?

My personal fave is the essential ingredient for any Pink Lady’s big night out -  Sparkle Spray!

It’s £5.99 for 200ml and is a quick and easy, instant sparkle spray that will add maximo glitz and glamour to your ensemble, will make your hair shimmer and shine and it smells just as sweet as the rest of the Lee Stafford range - hurrah!

To get your hands on the Lee Stafford Bling range, head to your nearest Boots store, pronto!

2282514598_6c1845dab2.jpg“…Lisa, when I came to see you at an event recently, I saw that you had an amazing tattoo on your foot - do you have any others? I’m 16 and really want a tattoo, but my mum says I’m not allowed one as it looks cheap and it’ll stop me from getting a job - what do you think?…”

Cherry, Leics

Okay Cherry, here’s the deal. I have a HUGE passion for tattoos. I just love the idea of using your body as a beautiful canvas on which to collect one-of-a-kind art work. I do not, however, love the idea of getting the name of your current boy du jour scrawled on your arm only to find out a week later that he’s not your lifetime-long partner in soul after all…

So, with this in mind, I shall now discuss tattoo-age.

pile_of_books.jpegSo, this weekend I’m off to the Edinbro’ Children’s Book Festival - I am nervy and excited all rolled into a pink me-shaped package right now!

I’ve been going to the Edinbro festival for the last five years now, and have spent entire days hanging out at the book fest… what I love most is being surrounded by so many people who dig books as much as I do. I always let out a huge, big happy-girl sigh when I arrive at the entrance because I know that, when I step inside, it’s like stepping into a pair of my favourite pink pajamas - comfy and familiar. Every year, after seeing lots of amazing authors share the love, I’d come home and write in my journal about how I was going to appear as an author there, and this year I really, actually am. It’s in the programme and everything!

Ed fest was on my Life List - a list of things I’m going to see, do, visit, experience and achieve in the life o’ Lisa - it’s a looooooong list, but this year I’m going to be able to tick it off - like that’s not the hugest helping of yummy awesomesauce ever! Not only is appearing at the Ed fest a total dream come true, it’s proof that when you write something down, commit it to paper and then visualise and believe in it, it can and will happen! It’s real-life magic. Fact.

What’s on your Life List right now? Care to share?

I’ve not been so excited about a film since…oh, I dunno, the last film I got excited about!

The ah-mazing Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, a killer book by Rachel Cohn and David Lethian, which you should deffo go read if you haven’t already is coming out in film form this October - I’m doing a happy dance just thinking about how good it’s going to be.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

Reasons why I heart Kimberley:

She hearts pink - hurrah, she has a black pug dog - I am envy-green!, she digs shopping, she loves dropping random french phrases - j’adore, and she has a fabulously swank book, website and podcast dedicated to becoming a Hip Tranquil Chick which is quite possibly the most dee-liciously sweet-as-sugar way to Love Yourself Up.

funnyface.jpgYou know I advocate a life filled with positive pink thoughts, but sometimes, just sometimes, life gets real lifey.

When this happens, I turn to films.

Like Lola, Audrey Hepburn is my homegirl too. There is really nothing an Audrey film can’t make better. Kickin’ back and watching a movie is quite possibly the nicest thing I can do for myself, I simply switch off and lose myself in on-screen fabulousness.

The film and scene that totally changed my life from mono to technicolour is Funny Face. Sigh. Apparently, I’m not allowed to embed it - boo, but if you haven’t seen it, you can check out the ah-mazing Think Pink scene here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmaffpKAYcw s’wonderful, s’marvellous.

When I was younger, I was told I wasn’t good enough, a lot. I was called fat and ugly, a lot.
Other people’s labels stick, they knock your confidence and make you feel super-sucky about yourself. That’s why I’ve dedicated this week to Lovin’ Yourself Up - a week where we’ll celebrate ourselves for the fabulous, fearless, mistake-making, perfectly imperfect, YOu-nique, gorgeous goddesses’ that we are…

So take a few minutes, watch this video and hug yourself up… Go on, give yourself a big ol’ hug - you’re awesome.
Fact.

Don’t get me wrong, I dig a lot of cool, cool music, but it seems that when you work in the realms of teen-girl with a bombardment of McFly, Jonas Bros and The Days - which I totes love too btw, you do lose the ability to discover the new stuff. Case in point, I heard Panic At The Disco t
