Describe your fabulous self in 5 words, Marine…
Parisian, imaginative, glamourous, self-mockery, Cancer

Pink-world hearts Miss Sugar Cane. Fact. Tell us ALL about it!
I started Miss Sugar Cane 18 mouths ago. Before that, I studied for a masters in Art, then I worked for jewellery companies and Chanel for 4 years. But Miss Sugar Cane is an old  dream. I’ve always dreamed of having my own company, so, when I blew out my 30 birthday candles, I said “bye” to my boss and started believing in my lucky star. I didn’t want to disappoint the little girl in me.

The name Miss Sugar Cane come from the character played by Marilyn Monroe in Some like it hot . My favorite movie and actress. I like this name, it sound exotic, funny and glamourous.

When, and how, did you realise you were a creative girl able to make fabulous-o treats that people would buy?
I have always customised my clothes, loved shopping, read magazines or people in the street. During my Masters, I started to make tee-shirt and accessories, my friends liked the treats, so I thought that there might be some other girls who would like what I like too!

What was the first product you ever made?
When I was little I made a very sexy Alaïa dress for my Barbie doll with my mom’s old black leggings!

Tell us about your product range, what you got to offer? What are your current favourite items? What inspires your too-cute designs?
What inspires me can be a song, a mood, a movie, a picture, a word, an old women wearing a panther trench coat or a little girl playing in the grass. It’s very unconscious. I am like a sponge. When I start a new collection I create exactly what I would like to wear and it comes easy.

You’re based in my favourtie city in the whole wide world - Paris - what do you love most about it and if I were to come again, where would you suggest I go - we love insider information!
I’m born in Paris, I’ve always lived there, but everyday I see Paris in the same way a tourist does. I live 5 minutes walk from Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge. If you come to Paris in the spring you must go to Le musée de la Vie Romantique, a charming little museum with a beautifull garden where you can have tea and a hand made cake (16 rue Chaptal 75009 Paris). Have a walk at the Marché aux Puces, a typical french free market: vintage clothes and furniture, jamaican bar…( Métro: Porte de Clingnancourt, from saturday to monday) and Sabbia Rosa : a lovely boudoir where you will find silk french “nuisette” in 300 different colors (73, rue des Saints pères 75006).

What’s the secret to your success?
I think that girls like Miss Sugar Cane because it’s poetic, easy to wear and feminine. It’s not too expensive, every jewellery is “Made with love in paris”. I have many collections so that every kind of girl/woman can have a crush on something. This is my trap ;) I like the idea that the MSC customer can be a  charming teenager, a sexy young woman or a  sweet  50 years old mum.

gl_after.gifWhat’s a typical day in the life of Marine…
Every day is a new day! There’s no routine when you have your own business and this is the great thing about it. I can work untill 3am and go to the cinema in the afternoon if I want. I love this freedom.

As an offical style-ista, what’s your ‘must-have’ accessory?
I am against the “must have” concept. Fashion is a game. Make your own rules. Keep you identity and your head high.

What’s your favourite brand and why?
Yves Saint Laurent because he was above the ” fashion blablabla world “and taught women how to be chic and not show off. Jean Paul Gaultier Couture for his special mix between french tradition, poetry and fun.

What would a Miss Sugar Cane soundtrack sound like?
The perfect song would be a song written by Bob Marley, played by Jimi Hendrix and sung by Amy Winehouse… or “Sugar Cane” by Jeff Beck.

Do you have a style bible – a magazine, book that you completely love?
I was educated by Elle and Vogue but most of all, I like to look at books about fashion history and Haute couture. I think that watching people in the street teaches you a lot about style.

What makes you jump-in-the-air-happy?
I bought my first paire of  Christian Leboutin shoes yesterday 40% sales! (Hard to jump with 11 cm high heels ;) I am superficial, I know!

What’s next in the world of Miss Sugar Cane?
I hope Miss Sugar Cane will have a successful and long life making women’s lives funnier and more poetic every day. I would like to make bags and make up with organic sugar cane!

Quick-fire round: What’s your favourite…

Book: Artist Biography
