princess1.jpgIf you’ve read the Think Pink manifesto you’ll know that, at the very top, it states; “…Don’t wait for others to treat you like the princess that you are…” that’s because both Lola and I know that being a princess is quite possibly the most fabulous-o thing in the world.

Fact.

If however, you’re struggling to embrace your princess-ness and want to know how to make wishes come true, come meet Princess Skye. Skye is creator-girl of The Princess Portal, a lifestyle blogginz all about being a Princess. I know, awesome, right? It’s filled to the brim with great features that will help you to recognise your own strengths and personal beauty - it’s divine, it’s beautiful, it’s inspir-O - j’adore.

Oh and FYI - check out the Princess Portal soundtrack, quite possibly my favourite s’far!

Describe Princess Skye in 5 words…
Curious, Old-fashioned, Romantic, Fairytale Princess

So, who is Princess Skye - care to share?

I’m really just an average young woman who never stopped believing in fairy tales and magic. I try my best to to live up to the ideals and virtues of a Princess, honour, courage, kindness, compassion and to see beauty in the little things in life, and the greater world around me.

You’re the super talent behind Princess Portal, for those who haven’t had the total treat of visiting yet, what is it exactly?

The Princess Portal is a lifestyle blog, it started as a way of recording my daily adventures and showing that a Princess Lifestyle really was possibly, even if you don’t have your own castle and carriage! From there it has expanded to include many things that might interest fellow princesses, from little snippets of history and legend in the Princess Profiles, to inspirational literature and films, recipes, how-to’s, fashion articles and the Princess Lessons, advice on living as a modern day princess. What I’ve come to love about running the Portal is the great community we have there, its really a place for any girl who wants to get in touch with her inner princess, and bring a little bit of beauty and magic in to her life.

The site is adorable - I heart it - where do you get your inspir-o from?
I have many fantastic inspirations! I read a lot of great fiction and see beautiful films, I talk to incredible girls from all over the world who share their stories and experiences with me and I pick up little bits of beauty in my daily life that inspire me to keep writing.

What 5 tracks would be essential to a Princess Portal soundtrack to life?

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes - Disney’s Cinderella
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy - Tchaikovsky
Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell
Kindle My Heart - A Little Princess OST

You have the most fabulous positive princess ‘tude - what’s your secret?
Every moment in life is precious and beautiful, take a step back and look at it for what it is. We get so caught up in our problems and stresses that we forget to live for the moment. The world is really a beautiful place if you stop, take a deep breath and open your eyes.

What’s your must-have, can’t live without item?
My Diary! I have a little korean organizer that I carry with me everywhere, it has my daily schedule, address book, photo-sticker album and a place to right notes and bits of inspiration as they come to me.

Who are your icons/mentors/inspir-o-girls and why?
There are so many inspiring women in history, Marie Antoinette, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Princess Ka’iulani, and in our legends and fairy stories as well. My greatest inspirations however are the amazing Princesses who I get to meet through my blog, each of them have their own stories about how they came to identify with the Princess Ideal and I have learnt so much from them!

What are the essential ingredients needed to become a princess?

A good serving of wonder, a dash of hope, a sprinkling of imagination and a star-granted wish. Really, we each have everything we need to be a Princess already inside of us, its just a matter of finding the self confidence, respect and determination to bring that out.

We love to visit new places - can you introduce us to your city? what would be your perfect way to spend a day there? what would you do? Where would you go?
I live in the beautiful city of Perth, Australia. Its a lovely green city by the sea and we have a river that is famous for its black swans. If I were to take you on a tour of my city, I would start with breakfast in the forested hills, a boat trip down the river, a walk through the city center to see some of the oldest buildings and then to one of our many white sandy beaches to watch the sun set over the ocean.

What do you wish you could have known as a teen girl in the world?

I think as a teenager, especially in high school you get such a small sampling of what the world has to offer and it can be hard to find people who understand you and what you believe in. Once you graduate, so many new horizons open up! You find that there are actually so many people out there like you, and that you can do anything you set your mind on if you follow your dreams. If I could say something to my teen-princess self it would be “Don’t worry, it only gets better from here on!”

There are so many exciting new things coming up for me! I’ve just given the Princess Portal a bit of a makeover with a new layout, and I have some great new features lined up, but they’re still secret for now, keep an eye out though!

The colour pink, discuss.

Pink is my favourite colour! Its feminine, soft, fun, playful, sweet, delicate, and girly. The colour of rose petal tea, chiffon party dresses, cherry blossoms and a blushing girl’s cheek.
