I intro’d you to the gorgeous goddess-girl, Leonie and her fabulous-o art and blogginz a li’l while back, well, this week it’s time to meet the sweet-as-sugar Australian lady o’ fabulousness herself.
Leonie is a radular arty goddess girl - she’s also a whole lot of lovely, beautiful and magical too - her blogginz and gorgeous art make me smile happy smiles right from my heart - J’adore.
Describe Leonie in five words…
Vibrant, Happy, Love-filled, Soulful and Deep. Oh, and just a little sherbet flavoured touch of Awesomely Wacky!
You’re a super-talented creator of amazing art and writing - when did you discover that what you do for a living can actually involve doing what you love?
Awww, thanks possum! I think I just came to a point that I wanted to share my art, writing, photography and retreats with more of the world. So making a business from it is a powerful vehicle for being able to share with more and more people!
I have so many passions, and when I was younger I thought I could only choose one of them. I just want to say that I’m proof you don’t have to choose! You can create a business doing all the things that you love!
So I make Goddess art prints and sell them at http://goddessofleonie.etsy.com, I create Custom artworks for people all around the world www.goddessleonie.com, I run retreats and workshops for women wanting to experience the Goddess inside themselves, I photograph the beauty in souls all around me, and I am in the process of writing my books.
How did your interest in goddesses develop?
When I was 21, I was invited along to a womens circle by a gorgeous women I worked with. It took me a couple of months to get the courage up to go, but when I did, I felt like I had gone home. I was surrounded by all these shining, beautiful women from my age up to their 60s. They glowed with a special light - it was as though they had realised they were goddesses, living divine, sacred, precious lives. They shared deeply from their hearts, they cried, they laughed, they moved through the challenges in their lives, they learned how to be more conscious, graceful and grateful.
The circle would read about ancient goddesses and the lessons they could teach us, and it really touched my spirit. Four years later, I am still circling, still being amazed by the look women have when they know they are goddesses in a moment. And now I run my own circles and retreats, honouring the calling inside me to share and teach what I have learned and know so even more women can experience it.
Which goddess most reflects you, Leonie and why?
I think I’m doing a really super job of being the Goddess Leonie. That’s kind of like my biggest aim - to be the best goddess I am. Not like anyone else. I think that’s what we all need to do. We all have our gifts, blessings and challenges. We all have things to learn and things to teach. Our uniqueness is the most sacred thing we have… I think we should revel in it!
How can the Pink Ladies (my readers!) embrace their inner goddess?
Oh, I love this question!
It is as simple as starting to call yourself a Goddess. Start seeing what gifts you have as the Goddess you are, what blessings you have and what challenges you face. What do you teach this world by being you? What do you need to learn from this world? Journal about it, and see what comes up.
My life changed when I realised all the wisdom I needed was already inside me. We are such wise, deep, knowing, beautiful beings! Everything we need is only a breath away - just inside our gorgeous hearts and divine souls.
I also highly recommend exploring women’s circles if you can… they can be a beautiful place and space to come home to.
Can you tell us a little bit about your creative processes please, Leonie!
I just move with Spirit!
I write, paint, create, do circles when that little soul need in me comes up. I do have a studio in our cottage, but it ends up extending to the rest of the house! Painting on the floor, outside in the backyard, writing in bed or upside down on the couch. Comfortable and fabulous is good!
It is important though to have some structure to support creating - to nurture and encourage creation even when my energy isn’t inspired. I am still learning this! It is a constant process of tweaking, refining, learning, adjusting, and loving no matter what ![]()
What five tunes would be on a Leonie goddess soundtrack?
The Andi and George Band “Hope” - they are a beautiful local Canberra band that are so blessed and talented! (Visit www.myspace.com/andiandgeorge)
Natasha Bedingfield “Unwritten” - it totally inspires me to write my story!
Any of the songs on Olivia Newton John’s “Grace & Gratitude” - that whole album is so healing to listen to!
Ben Lee “Catch my disease” - his whole album for “Awake is the New Sleep” is delicious, soulful and HAPPY.
Israel Kamakawiwo’ole “Somewhere over the Rainbow” - if you haven’t heard the bliss that is Iz yet, gift yourself with his heartfilled voice.
Who and what inspires you?
Oh! So many things. All of Life, pretty much.
Mother Earth is miracle on miracles for miles upon miles. She is the greatest muse anyone could have I think. Sky, earth, water, mountains, lakes, creeks, open plains, leaves, petals, sunrise, sunset, moonlight… a thousand kinds of inspiration just there
Being in sacred circles with women is a great inspiration in my life… to see other women’s faces lighting up and shining with the Goddess inside them is an amazing feeling. I believe in each of us there is a wise and beautiful Goddess just waiting for us to see her inside us.
Loving my family so greatly and deeply is a big inspiration in my life. I just feel so blessed to get to love and be loved by this big group of souls who are so different, but are like a litter of puppies the way they love each other! I also live with my amazing partner Chris & our spirit puppy Charlie - they fill my heart with so much joy and love.
What makes you jump-in-the-air-happy?
Having wild adventures. Last weekend I was at a healing retreat out on a farm, and we had baths in a claw footed bath next to a lake under the full moon, with a fire under the bath so the water was deliciously warm. It was so breathtakingly exquisitive that I was a floating giggle goddess for the rest of the night. ![]()
What’s a day in the life of Leonie like?
Mmmm! So many things! I work part time as a web editor for a government organisation as well as my Goddess Leonie business/light sharings. My perfect day involves waking early while the light is still golden, walking beneath the eucalypt trees, spending the morning writing, painting and creating, then going on an adventure somewhere with my love. Or waking up on a retreat at one of my Goddess Gathering retreats, surrounded by gorgeous goddesses of all ages, and spending the day in sacred space, meditation, laughter, sharing and creativity. Both are beautiful!
What was life like as a teen girl for you?
Quite challenging! Being the exquisite, excitable and effervescent goddess I am, I felt very very different from everyone else. I found it hard to fit in, and moved schools because of it. The blessings of that time was that I found a lot of joy and love inside myself through painting, writing, creativity and finding other beautiful and unique souls (mostly boys) to hang out with and enjoy our eccentricities. I embraced who I was and it became so much fun!
Is there anything you wish you could go back and tell your teen self?
That you are precious and beautiful just as you are. Be the best Leonie you can be, because that’s the journey you need to walk this life.
What’s your motto for life?
“Joy is an option.” That at any time, you can choose joy, laughter, happiness and love. You are a powerful Goddess!
Quick fire round…What’s your favourite:
