Meet Kimberley Wilson. She can make your world significantly pinker. Fact.
Reasons why I heart Kimberley:
She hearts pink - hurrah, she has a black pug dog - I am envy-green!, she digs shopping, she loves dropping random french phrases - j’adore, and she has a fabulously swank book, website and podcast dedicated to becoming a Hip Tranquil Chick which is quite possibly the most dee-liciously sweet-as-sugar way to Love Yourself Up.
Kimberley, describe your sweet self in 5 words…
creative, driven, well-accessorized, yogini, do-gooder
So, who is Kimberley Wilson - care to share?
A girl on-the-go looking for tranquility, inspiration, passion, and creativity in all she does.
You’re the super talent behind the amazing Hip Tranquil Chick - website, podcasts books - for those who haven’t had the total treat of visiting yet, what is it exactly? What’s it all about? When and why did you start it?
Hip Tranquil Chick is a concept I created in 2004 out of a desire to offer a lifestyle book for female yogis looking to lead a mindfully extravagant life.
You do a million things all at once - how do you remain a hip tranquil chick in the chaos?
Ahh, I have trouble sitting still and continue to try to make meditation a daily part of my life to balance my Type A”ness.” When things like a delayed flight, traffic, or long line when I’m in a rush happen, I have learned to go with the flow and not let it get the best of me. Now, don’t get my wrong, I’m not perfect and get fairly thrown off by the slightest shifting of expectations but have come a long way in surrendering those darn expectations.
You are the yoga queen. Fact. We’re total newbies to all things yoga, what differences has it made to your world and how can it benefit us?
A yoga queen is a lovely title, thank you! Yoga is yummy - truly. I can’t get enough of it and it has changed my life. Connecting to my body and breath is powerful. I’ve searched for year for an exercise I enjoyed and didn’t dread. Finally, at the age of 23 I found yoga! It helps me let go, connect to my body, be more mindful, embrace compassion for myself and others, and just feels darn good!
We love your website - where do you get your inspir-o to continuously produce awesome content? Your podcasts must take forever to organise?
I love sparkle so I’m always looking to add more ideas, tips, muses, and suggestions. I get inspiration through books, colors, cafes, museums, time alone, and my sewing machine.
What 5 tracks would be essential to a HTC soundtrack to life?
Dancing Queen by ABBA
Lose Yourself by Eminem
Wild Horses by Rolling Stones
Baker Baker by Tori Amos
What it Feels Like For a Girl by Madonna
One of the many reasons why we heart you is that you’re cool with us being spiritual AND loving shoes - when and how did you realise this was a totally do-able option?
I’m unapologetically who I am. I like shoes, lipgloss, and yoga! When I was little I would go on hikes with a purse and headscarf and wore a thin pink belt on the outside of my soccer jersy. I’ve always been a bit of a non-conformist without evening realizing it. Being spiritual is easier if you live in a cave and renounce your worldliness. Being spiritual while living your life among others not always on the same journey is a bit harder. I don’t think that you have to forgo what makes you happy (unless it brings harm to others) to be spiritual - even fabulous shoes!
You are a total advocate of journalling - we LOVE it too - why do you think journalling is mucho important?
It allows you to get your feelings out and really connect to what is going on. I love it. My journals have gotten me through some very challenging times and I often carry it in my purse so it is with me at all times.
People associate you with a super-sunny disposition, how do you get through the tough times?
I write in my journal, I nap, I do yoga, and I remind myself that this too shall pass.
We love to visit new places - can you introduce us to your city? what would be your perfect way to spend a day there? what would you do? Where would you go?
Washington, DC is a very fun place to visit - especially in the spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. I would start the day with a yummy scone and pot of tea at Teaism in Dupont Circle, head to Tranquil Space for some yummy yoga, then to The Phillips Collection to see their gorgeous Bonnard paintings, and then down to the mall for some more amazing art and free museums. I’d end the day by dining in Georgetown on the waterfront or on M street. And, of course, top it off with a cupcake from one of the delicious cupcake shoppes in the area.
Tell us who inspires you/who you admire and why?
Women who are juggling many things with grace inspire me. Examples: Madonna, Oprah and Martha Stewart have built amazing businesses, inspire others, are innovative, and juggle oodles of roles among their organizations!
What do you wish you could have known as a teen girl in the world?
To stay focused on my future and not get caught up in silly boy drama.
What makes you jump-in-the-air happy?
Time in a bookstore, kisses from my pug Louis, cuddling with my beau on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and being in the zone at my yoga studio.
What’s your life motto?
Live fully. Laugh often. Leave a Legacy.
