Era Icon is a totes new addition to Pink-World in which I shout about kick-ass women who have rocked and ruled…
From A-list actress to aerobic queen, Jane Fonda was always one step ahead of the style pack.

Born into one of Hollywood’s biggest movie dynasties, Jane Fonda was always destined to become a big-screen legend-lady. The star of several controversial flicks, such as cult sci-fi classic Barbarella (pictured above), she became as famous for her political views and cool styling as she was for her acting. She slipped elegantly and effortlessly from from 60s beatnik to 80s power-dresser, stepping off the red carpet in favour of the workout studio floor. She turned to a life of exercise (she coined the phrase: ‘Feel the burn’), and is single-handedly to blame for the birth of the aerobics video, being the first to jump into action with a belted leotard in the inimitable Jane Fonda’s Workout.
Signature style: On screen, Jane worked every look to the max, whether in ball-breaking futuristic metallic garb (if you haven’t seen Barbarella, go rent it, pronto!) or prim secretarial twinsets (in 80s blockbuster 9 To 5). Off-screen, her image was constantly evolving, from elfin-cropped hippy activist in ethnic threads to sultry come-get-me starlet with big hair and big attitude, via nautical but nice.
Jane may not be working the lycra and legwarmers anymore - boo - but she’s still rockin’ and rulin’ having just recently dropped the c-bomb on daytime TV in the US - fab style, awesome ‘tude - now, excuse me while I go watch Barbarella for the 84th time.
