Hands up who hearts The X factor?
If I wasn’t typing, I’d have two hands firmly in the air, I LOVE talent shows! My faves at the moment are: Leon - cute, Rhydian - talented and a li’l bit kooky-my fave combination! Oh, and Same Difference - so, so adoreable.
‘Cept I don’t heart the X Factor’s idea of Girl Power. Not one li’l bit.
So, you know how Pink Thinkin’ is positive thinkin’, right?
And you know that when you Think Pink, you become feisty, fun, fearless and fabulous, right?
Well, I reckon that’s real Girl Power.
Y’know, Loving yourself inside and out
Dreaming big dreams, getting focused and making them happen - that doesn’t mean just wanting to be ‘famous’ - that means discovering your ah-mazing talents and sharing them with the world! Maybe you’re a scientist-girl who finds a cure for cancer or makes yummy, not-tested-on-animals prods or maybe you’re an art-girl who creates films that make people think differently…
Having HUGE respect for yourself and for others - that means telling yourself you’re fabulous on a daily basis, saying NO, and telling other girls how much they rock
So, imagine how mad I was when I watched X Factor last night, and heard Louis Walsh tell the world that would-be girl group, HOPE are what Girl Power is all about.
Er…Hello?
Now, I think HOPE are talented, especially the 16 year old lead singer - she’s blimmin’ brilliant - I’m just gutted that judge-dude Simon, thinks that the only way to promote these girls is to get them wearing virtually no clothes and have them singing songs about rudies.
It just gets, well… a bit borin’ snorin’, to be honest. It’s like they’re becoming a cookie-cutter version of the girl groups before them and that just makes me mad and sad. Now, how cool would it be if they made their own girl-group shaped footprints in pop-world?
Now that would really rock!
The HOPE that Simon is creating isn’t Girl Power, it’s a tried and tested method of selling records and that’s sucky.
NOW, OVER TO YOU, PINK LADIES! What does the term GIRL POWER mean to you?
What girls rock your world and why?
Comment below before the 16th November, and you’ll be put into a prize draw for a Lola Love goody bag!

I think GIRL POWER is really about being kind to your self and others and having the courage to be yourself. Embracing the fact that no-one is perfect and learning to love yourself and others despite those samll imperfections. Two girls that rock my world i show true GIRL POWER girls are: Hilary Duff. When she was young Disney thought she couldn’t act, but she proved them soooo wrong when she did Lizzie Mcguire! And even though she’s older and more famous now, she’s just as down to Earth as she was when she wasn’t famous. The other GIRL POWERETTE is my best friend. She’s not afraid to be herself and she knows how to forgive and be kind to others. I think these qualities are REAL GIRL POWER.

Doing what is right for yourself and your loved ones and not being influenced by negative attitudes - having the confidence and ability to empower yourself to combat discrimination against women. Having the strength and tenacity to break down the barriers in order to succeed

GIRL POWER is loving life and loving yourself. It’a about having confidence in yourself and being that little bit different. GIRL POWER is respecting other people and yourself, it’s about knowing that you’re fabulous and you kick ass! Two ladies who rock my world are Audrey Hepburn and Gwen Stefani, they have real GIRL POWER! I sooo agree that HOPE can sing but what makes them different to all the other girl bands out there?
GIRL POWER is something you can’t create, it’s something you have.

I am totez lovin Rhydian, even though I hated him at first! I got angry when all the judges were going on saying Hope were real girl power!! Simon found a formula (sex sells) and stuck to it, plus they totally cheapened one of my fave madonna songs! Beverly is way more girl/WOMAN power than Hope!

The power to do anything a man can do - if I WANT to! I don’t particularly want to bricklay or stand up to pee, but I will defend to the death any other woman’s right to do so!

To me, girl power is about confidence in your own inner beauty and living life with dignity no matter what is thrown at you. I think back to how much women had to fight for the most basic rights of equality (and still do!) and realise that its a gift to be cherished and developed, not exploited or dismissed.
And I couldn’t agree more about Hope, I’ve reached the point where I can’t watch Hope and fast forward or mute as the way the girls are being marketed is frankly degrading. I’m all for women acknowledging their sexuality but most women can do it without all the scanty outfits and grinding… it makes me cringe to see them allowing themselves to be sold short each week…
I adore Leon but then he’s from my home town so I kinda would have to any way… I also like Rhydian as though he hams it up in his performance, he seems very genuine and humble when the music stops… I also love Same Difference as they are so fun and sweet… and Beverley is such a good role model… Crikey, I love them all!!!!

Girl Power means being responsible for your own decisions in life, and not being answerable to anyone else - especially to men!

Girl power = women uniting and being proud of who they are and their gender! Women who know what they want and believe they can get it and make it their mission to get it with style!
My ‘Girl Power’ role model would be:
My future mum in law! - Amazing woman, jugged kids and a career and is still working her way up the ladder. Even though she has been a lot she is so strong. I personally have had a lot of problems the last few years and she has really helped me and is such a great listener. Plus she can get up and look immaculate in less than 30 minutes!

Girl Power should be about knowing you don’t need a boyfriend to be happy. Really, what’s SO great about boys? As Grease’s Frenchie says, the only man a girl can depend on is a Daddy!
Being a girl doesn’t mean being obbsessed with make up and clothes, and what their hair looks like. Girl Power is being able to see beyond that. Girls like Rosa Parks, Marie Curie and Jacqueline Wilson are perfect examples of Girl Power.
You don’t have a to have a pretty face and rail-thin to be beautiful. Come on girls, SHINE ON!
