rp.jpgIf, like me, you’ve been following the story of Soap Star Ruby Parker in her fab fiction series written by uber-talented Rowan Coleman - you’ll be pleased to know the third installment: Ruby Parker - Hollywood Star is out now!

Ruby is still trying to get over the fact that her middle aged mum, who forgets to dye her roots and wear tracksuit bottoms to do the house work is now going out with world famous acting legend Jeremy Fort.

Her Mum, going out with someone famous!

This would be weird even if Jeremy’s last girl friend hadn’t been Carenza Slavchenkov the Russian supermodel. Weirder still Ruby’s mum is taking her to spend the holidays in Hollywood. Suddenly Ruby’s been launched into Tinsel Town and she has no idea how to deal with it.

I’ve caught up with the fabulous Ruby to find out ’bout Danny, how to deal with pesky parentals and what life’s really like in Hollywood…

Hola Ruby! Is Hollywood really the city of dreams?

Hi Lola! Hollywood is the strangest place, it is the city of dreams where you life can changer over night, but what’s really weird about it is that it’s like waking up in a dream, or even in a film. Nothing seems really properly real.

What’s it like leaving your boyfriend, Danny behind? Can long-distance relationships last?

Danny? When ever anyone asks me about Danny I’m supposed to say that we are ‘really good friends and that I’m looking forward to seeing him when I get back’, but as it’s you Lola I’ll give you an exclusive. I miss him quite a lot, but don’t tell him that (oops). I hope long distance relationships work, but I don’t know because this is my first one!

How does your TV work differ from being a movie star?
I started working on the TV Series Kensington Heights when I was six, so I sort of grew up working in TV, it seemed completely normal to me. Plus you see the same people everyday and it’s a bit like a family. I used to think of my screen mum Brett Summers as a second mum - that was until I found out she was secretly trying to get me sacked from the show. Shooting my first (and possibly last) film was completely different. I was nervous for starters and completely over awed by working with really properly famous people like Imogene Grant and the fully GORGEOUS Sean Rivers. Never mind legend of stage and screen, Jeremy Fort - the fact he started going out with my mum didn’t exactly help. Imagine your mum going out with an older Brad Pitt. Freaky, right?

What’s your favourite movie to watch when…

You’re down-in-the-dumps?
Is it wrong to love The Sound of Music? If it is then I don’t want to be right!
Happy?
I love a good cheer leading movie, and Bring It On is my favourite.
With your gal pals?
We used to watch anything with Sean Rivers in it but now that I know him and he’s going out with my best friend Anne-Marie we don’t do that such much, it just makes Annie so smug. To be honest when ever we get together to watch a film we talk so much I can never remember what it is we’ve seen anyway!

Parentals are hard work aren’t they? What would be your top tips for Pink Ladies who find their mum-parental going out with a new dude?
When my mum and dad split up I didn’t think that either of them would go out with any one else, I didn’t think that anyone would want to go out with them. And then mum started going with Jeremy Fort which was way weired because his last girlfriend was Russian supermodel Carenza Slavchenkov and my mum wears a tracksuit to hoover the living room. But he likes her a lot and she likes him so I am getting used to it. My top tip is be up front about how you feel about it,so that your mum knows and you are not bottling everything up, but give him a chance too because when mum’s are happy life is better. Also impose a total ban on any public displays of affection within a five hundred metre radius around where ever you are. That applies to any kind of parental couple, old people kissing? Ugh.

Where would you recommend we go hang out for a chocolate milkshake in the Holly’hood?

Mum and Jeremy took me to a place called Mel’s Drive-In in West Hollywood. It’s been in loads of films so when you go in there you feel like you already know it plus there is almost always someone famous in there tucking into a burger. On top of that I had the best chocolate milkshake I have ever had in my life there.

What advice would you give any would-be movie stars reading this? I’m guessing Media Training might be one of them, right?
Yeah, definitely don’t do what I did which is go on TV in front of millions of people and then accidentally give away one of the best kept secrets in show business! That didn’t work out so well….. But also if you really want to be an actor then you have to remember that wanting it really badly isn’t enough to make it happen. True stars, (and I don’t know if I’m one of them) have not only got properly real talent but they work harder than anyone else to get to the top. Instead of sitting around dreaming and waiting for stardom to happen to them they make it happen.

WIN! WIN! WIN!
