Don’t be scared, they’re pussycats really!
Ladies, why are you called PinkHearse exactly?
The name choosing was quite random, we just picked lots of words and through them together to see what was best. Pink Hearse was the best choice for us because the Hearse shows the Horror side of our music and obviously we’re girls and Pink is an amazing colour! It seemed to make sense to us.
What’s your music style - why will we heart it?
We tend to class our music as Horrorpunk which is basically non-political punk with alot of horror lyrics.
We get inspired by horror movies a lot. We have also been refered to as Hollywood Punk because of our glamourous side and we also have a lot of glamour styled lyrics. Our songs are catchy and not too heavy and we’re girls. hehe.
What made you wanna be singer girls, how did you get together?
For years a couple of us always wanted to be in a band.
Even back in the early days of doing dance routines in our bedrooms.
However, as we grew up we realised girl rockers were much cooler and decided to start a punk band. Three of us were already friends, then we found Amy, who’s parents owned a pub which Nikki used to sing in then at performing arts college we discovered Catlow and the band was complete.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Omg! this question was so hard we really couldnt answer it. haha.
Do you write your own material? Tell us about the process…do you do it together?
We do write our own kick ass songs. We also throw in a few covers just because we love them but not many. Mainly Nikki and Catlow write the lyrics but we all help out some. As a band we then all come up with our music parts and help each other to fit in together.
Do you have day jobs too? Tell us about those and how you juggle it all!
Fenton works in a cafe at the moment and is studying history at college too. “It’s hard work, but it’s gotta be done.”
Nikki is looking for a job at the moment, she has just finished college and it waiting to go to university to do a degree in fashion styling. “It’s hard sometimes, but i wouldnt give up my dreams for anything.”
Rai is also going to university next year to become a therapist, but until then she works in an office through the week pretending that she is an assistant like in The Devil Wears Prada.
” I almost gave up on the band once because it was so hard to juggle. Biggest mistake I made. Now i know that if it all seems too much, talk to someone, dont just quit.”
Amy is taking her GCSE exams at the moment and even though she is the youngest she actually juggles everything better than the rest of us.
” I just love my band!”
Catlow spends all day imagining she’s in some film or a music video about a girl who works in a shop or spends her time trying to make modern art with reciepts and pens and staples or whatever else they have lying around. “I only work one day a week so it doesnt really affect the band apart from when I have to get up for work at 5am when I got in from a gig at half 2 in the morning or something. It’s all rock n roll!”
What makes you jump-in-the-air-happy?
Rai – pink, glitter, lip gloss, boys, chocolate, diet coke, posh coffee and my Think Pink book!
Nikki – Make up, shopping, fashion, dressing up, music, Pink Hearse, best friends.
Fenton – Call of Duty(computer game), Art, history, the 1940’s era, playing guitar.
Amy – Pink Hearse doing fab gigs, and when people scream for us to do an encore, I love that!
Catlow - Going out and dancing stupidly and being silly with my favourite people (ie; my hearse girlies, my friends, my girlfriend and all the lovely people of blackpool!)
Any advice for would-be singer-girls?
Learn a few chords, bang a few drums, sing a few notes, anything. The most important thing is to believe you can do it and Have Fun !
What’s PinkHearse’s life motto?
As the Rocky Horror Picture Show told us “Don’t Dream It, Be It!”
Always be yourself and don’t let people put you down. You are fabulous!
We have a myspace - who doesn’t these days. On there you will find some of our songs, a gig list, pictures, blogs, booking information and merchandise such as cd’s, tshirts and badges. And you will be able to leave messages and comments for us to read and reply to.
We Love You!
