My choice:
Style Sisters: Paris Princess
Liz Elwes
(ISBN: 9781853408793 @ £5.99) *
With a super cool title like this how could you go wrong? When chic French exchange students descend on the world of Carrie, Rani and Chloe they’re hoping to glean some top tips from the uber-fashionable Parisians. But when expensive cosmetics and designer gear fail to protect them against the insecurities of teenage angst it’s a good things they have each other. Fresh and sassy, this is top class.

The second book in the Venus Spring Stunt Girl series. Body Double is about a famous teen movie star who is threatened with kidnapping. Venus steps in as her body double to confuse any would-be kidnappers and goes on to the solve the entire case - naturally. It’s fun, feisty and totally hip.

Sadie’s Choice:
The Remarkable Life and Times of Eliza Rose
Mary Hooper
(ISBN: 978-0747575825 @ £5.99)
Mary Hooper is best known for her Megan books - about the teenage mum - and she’s got other contemporary books looking at teen issues too, but where she really shines, I think anyway, is in her historical books. ‘At the Sign of the Sugared Plum’ (about the plague in London 1665) and its sequel ‘Petals in the Ashes’ (about the Great fire of London in 1666) are top notch and this latest one is brilliant too! Set in London at a similar time as the previous novels this story follows Eliza as twists of fate give her an almost Cinderella tale. She escapes an evil Stepmother, ends up in a squalid prison unjustly and then befriends the notorious Nell Gwynn who introduces her to the courtly intrigue, politics and glamour of the court of King Charles, where Eliza begins to discover her true background. This is a bit more fictional than the other historical books, as the plot twists are often a bit too convenient, but it’s a really good read.

Bella’s Choice:
Bloodsong
Melvin Burgess
(ISBN: 978-0141316215 @ £5.99) *
This is the sequel to Bloodtide, which was totally brilliant. It’s based on an old Icelandic saga about gods and stuff but it’s set in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic Britain. In this book we find out what happens to the son of the two teenagers in Bloodtide. It’s a real rip roaring read with quite a lot of violence and gore - so not for the faint hearted - but it really pulls you in, like a proper old-fashioned saga should. Not quite as good as the first book but by no means a poor sequel. Highly recommended.
